Friends of Hadramaut
About Us
The idea of forming “Friends of Hadhramaut” came as a result of a visit to the area by S. Al - Qu’aiti and Brian Fyfield - Shayler, as part of an expedition organised in 1996 by the British Yemeni Society.
The trust, registered with the Charity Commissioners of Great Britian, aims to promote philanthropic, educational and medical links between the people of Hadhramaut and overseas, bringing the needs of the people to the attention of those who may be in the best position to help. The trust aims to raise living standards, individually and collectively, relieving poverty wherever it can.
We favour community - based projects and self-help developments, using as far as possible local resources, indigenous materials and appropriate technology. Our first project for support was Al - Noor Institute for the Blind in Mukallah. We also provide equipment and supplies to hospitals in Al - Qatn, Shibam, Seiyun, Tarim, Mukallah, Shihr, Ghail Ba Wazir and Ibn Sina in Fuwwa. We are also trying to help schools throughout the area.
The work of “Friends of Hadhramaut” is purely humanitarian and strictly non - political. Though based in the United Kingdom it has been an international effort from the outset. The trustees draw on the goodwill of well - wishers around the world.

New “Friends” are asked to send £20 sterling (30 Euro) which will place you on the mailing list (for newsletters) and in our “Directory of Friends”. Additional donations of any size will, of course, be very welcome and will be acknowledged. Overseas subscriptions and donations should be by bankers draft payable in sterling in the UK.
Please let us know if you have any skills or other offers you might be able to give to the people of Hadhramaut, or any ideas for fundraising which you might be prepared to undertake or take part in. Thank you for your support.
